This September sees many Globe volunteers return to the classroom as the joint enrichment scheme with Oasis Southbank Academy officially kicks off.
Globe will be leading a six-week programme helping Year 8 students to devise a new school magazine; the sessions include creating content, design and practising a winner pitch before a final competition with a judging panel.
Week one saw Tasmin Cooper and Lois Fryers split the students into teams and set them off on the first task of the term – deciding what their magazines would focus on. From cakes to travel and gaming, the students picked a wide variety of topics. With lots of personalities in the room, it’s set to be a great competition.
Week two saw Josh Richman, Ellen Heaney and Jeremy White convince the students that legal content can be interesting (anyone familiar with Grumpy Cat?!) and provide the students with plenty of tips on how to construct and write engaging and interesting stories for their magazines.
We’ve received plenty of positive feedback from volunteers, students and the teachers involved and are looking forward to seeing how the rest of the scheme progresses.
