Oasis Academy and Globe celebrate end of second Enrichment competition

Following on the success from Autumn half term, Year 8 students from Oasis Academy South Bank have worked with teams from Globe to create their own magazines.

Five teams competed over six weeks to learn the different elements of pulling together a magazine, before pitching their ideas to a panel of judges.

Editors, business development, design, marketing and project management colleagues all volunteered to spend Monday afternoons with the teams; guiding the students through the theory of creating great stories and compelling front cover design.

The teams pitched some powerful ideas to the panel: an advice magazine for children to guide them through the difficulties of settling into school, a compilation of reviews for different entertainment and a publication aiming to put real-life models and fashion advice into an otherwise photo-shopped industry. In the end, the bold and impressive team behind “Silver Linings” won: their magazine curated for the LGBTQ+ community. Their real-life stories had encouraged other teams to contribute testimonials and the panel were really impressed by their confident presentation and well thought-out business case. The team won £100 donated by the company for them to spend on an area in school of their choice.

We return to Oasis in the new year and can’t wait to see what the next cohort of creatives come up with!
